Gravel driveway repair and maintenance
A gravel drive that holds water turns into ruts, potholes and washouts. We regrade it, shape it so water runs off, and get it back to a drive you can use.
Call (865) 346-6688What the work is
Gravel drive repair is mostly about shape and water. We pull the stone back where it belongs, fill and smooth ruts and potholes, rebuild washed out edges, and put a crown down the middle so rain runs off to the sides instead of down the tire tracks.
We also clean out the ditches along the drive and the ends of culverts so the water has somewhere to go. If the drive needs new gravel, we talk about it at the site visit.
Why drives fail here
East Tennessee gets heavy rain, and a lot of drives here are on slopes. Water that runs down the middle of a drive carries the stone with it. Under the gravel, red clay holds water, gets soft, and lets the stone push down into it, which is where potholes start.
Ditches that fill with leaves and silt, and culverts packed with mud, send water across the drive instead of under it. Fixing the surface without fixing the water means you will be fixing it again after the next storm.
How we do it
Call or send the form. We come out, walk the drive with you, and look at where the water comes from and where it goes. You get a straight number in writing. Then our crew shows up with the Caterpillar 265 skid steer and does the work.
Regular upkeep costs less than a full rebuild. Some owners have us regrade once or twice a year so small ruts never turn into washouts.
What affects the price
- How long the drive is and how bad the ruts and washouts are.
- How steep it is and how much water runs onto it.
- Ditch and culvert-end clean-out along the way.
- Whether there is enough stone left to work with.
What to have ready
Move vehicles off the drive for the day, or tell us where they need to be. Point out any culverts, water lines or cables you know run under or beside the drive, and let us know where you want the water to go if you have a preference.

Common questions
Do you pave or do asphalt?
No. We work on gravel drives: regrading, ruts, potholes, washouts, crowning and ditches.
Do I need new gravel?
Not always. A lot of drives have plenty of stone that has just moved to the edges or into the ditch. If the drive needs new gravel, we talk about it at the site visit.
How often should a gravel drive be regraded?
It depends on the slope, the traffic and how much rain we get. Many drives around Knoxville do well with a regrade once or twice a year.
Can you fix a drive that washes out every storm?
Usually the fix is the water, not just the gravel. We crown the drive and clean out the ditches and culvert ends so the water leaves the drive before it can carry the stone off.
