Blount County

Excavation and site work in Maryville

Maryville is the county seat of Blount County, between Knoxville and the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Ground around here goes from gentle valley land to steep wooded slopes the closer you get to the mountains. We handle site prep, footers, grading and drainage across the area.

Valley ground and foothill slopes

Close to town, much of the land is rolling ground on red clay, with creeks running through the low places. Head south and east toward Chilhowee Mountain and the national park, and lots get steeper and rockier. A slope changes almost every part of a job: where the house can sit, how deep the footers go, and how water moves across the lot after it rains.

Parts of Blount County also sit on limestone, so shallow rock and sinkholes can come up. We check for both when we walk the property.

New homes and acreage

Maryville and the county around it have a mix of new subdivisions and homes going up on rural tracts. For a new build, we can clear and prep the site, dig footers to your builder's lines, and come back for rough and final grade.

Out in the county, a lot of folks have acreage that got away from them. Bush hogging and land clean-up bring a field or an overgrown lot back to something you can use, mow or build on. Long gravel drives on rural land also wash out, and we can regrade and fix them so they hold up.

Water on sloped lots

On a hillside, water does not stop at your property line. Runoff from above can cut ditches across a yard or a driveway. Good grade work and drainage slow it down and send it where it can go without doing damage. Planning that before the house goes in costs less than fixing it after.

Permits in Maryville and Blount County

Inside Maryville city limits, check with the City of Maryville. Outside the city, check with Blount County. Alcoa is its own city with its own office. Ask about grading and building permits before work starts, and call Tennessee 811 before we dig.

Common questions

Can you work on a steep lot?

We look at every slope in person before we quote it. Some steep ground is fine for our machines and some is not. If a part of the job is not safe for our equipment, we will tell you that up front.

Do you clear overgrown land in the county?

Yes. We bush hog tall grass, weeds and brush, and we do land clean-up for debris and junk. We do not fell trees or grind stumps, so tell us what is on the land when you call.
